I just opened my Horse Help Challenge kit and I could not wait to share everything inside. If you are a brand new horse owner or working with a rescue like me, this kit is packed with practical training tools and fun extras to help you and your horse progress through the 30 day program.
Quick overview
The kit is designed to support the Horse Help Challenge, a structured 30 day training program created by horse guru Michael Gascon and his team at Get Horse Help. The idea is simple and powerful: step by step groundwork and desensitization exercises that build confidence for both horse and handler. The kit gives you ready to use props, a workbook, and a few nice surprises to make training easier and more motivating.
You and your horse can do it.
What was in my kit
I opened the box and found a long list of items. Below is everything I found and how I plan to use each item.
Training gear and tack
- Halter, reins, and lead rope set in a color I love. This is actually my third MG Halter set, and I now have three matching sets.
- Long reins for groundwork and longeing exercises.
- Cones for creating patterns, gates, and obstacle courses.
- Tarps to practice desensitization and build confidence crossing strange surfaces.
- Feed bags already cut so they can be put on a stick for target or desensitizing work.
Desensitization and homemade props
- Electrical tape to make a flag post or other DIY tools for desensitizing. I will use it to attach feed bags or create a controlled flag.
- Small signs and little baggies to mark stations or create a training course.
Learning materials and extras
- Workbook with the training plan and a VIP checklist of everything included in the kit. The program breaks training down into levels I loved seeing labeled like kindergarten moving up to first grade.
- Chalk marker, chalk, pencil, pen, and eraser for planning lessons and tracking progress on the workbook.
- Magnets to use with the checklist or whiteboard for goal tracking.
- Horse Help Challenge t shirt and a cute graduation cap for the horse as a fun milestone prop.
- A smart tripod for my phone so I can record training sessions and review progress.
How I will use these tools
Every item has a purpose in the Horse Help Challenge routine. Here is my plan for putting the kit to use:
- Start with groundwork and halter manners using the halter and lead rope. Short sessions to build trust.
- Use cones and feed bags on a stick for easy targets and to teach the horse to move around obstacles.
- Introduce tarps and long reins in gradual steps for desensitization. The electrical tape will help me create flags and temporary training props.
- Record sessions with the tripod so I can see what went well and what needs repeating.
- Track progress in the workbook and mark achievements with the magnets and the graduation cap for my horse when we reach milestones.
About the Horse Help Challenge and Michael Gascon
The Horse Help Challenge is a guided 30 day program from Get Horse Help. Michael Gascon is the horse guru behind the challenge. His approach focuses on practical, repeatable exercises that help owners build consistent handling skills, improve horse confidence, and address common issues through patient groundwork and desensitization.
The challenge is ideal for new horse owners and people working with rescues because it breaks complex training into approachable steps. The kit complements the lessons so you can practice at home with the right props already available, making each exercise easier to set up and safer to run through
Where to join
If you want to follow the same 30 day plan I am doing, you can find the program at this link: https://www.gethorsehelp.com/?sca_ref=9801154.ViJ3JZFd77
(The Challenge Kit is an upgrade- but I highly recommend it!)
Final thoughts
I am so excited to use everything in this Horse Help Challenge kit. It is both practical and motivating. From the simple halter and cones to the workbook and phone tripod, the kit removes a lot of setup friction so I can focus on consistent training with my rescue horse. The little extras like the t shirt and graduation cap also make celebrating milestones fun.
If you are a new owner or working with a rescue, this kit plus the 30 day Horse Help Challenge gives you a clear plan, the right tools, and encouragement to keep moving forward.
I’ve been doing the Horse Help Challenge and I can’t recommend it enough!
